Boer Goat
(Capra aegagrus hircus)

Boer goats are the largest breed of goat and are actually quite docile and dopey (but we do love them). Our beautiful Boer’s are easily recognisable by their long droopy ears and distinctive colouring of a crisp white body and black or brown patches usually on their head and feet.

An adult male Boer, known as a buck, can weigh up to 150kg, that’s the equivalent to an upright piano or a single size bed and mattress with a headboard. Female Boer goat are known as does or nannies.

Goats don’t have any upper teeth. They use a thick upper pad to help grind and chew their food and did you know that they burp?! This is because they have 4 stomaches and processing their food through 4 stomaches obviously causes them to burp from time to time. Have you ever heard a goat burp?! Did you know they also have rectangular pupils?!

We have many Boer goats at the farm, which we keep and breed. They make fantastic mothers and have a very good immune system which makes them less susceptible to disease!

Where can you see our Boer goats?

You’ll find our Boer goats in the silver barn or out in the paddocks around the farm.
