Growing up at the Farm – by Libby!
Hi, I’m Libby and I’m 10 years old. My mum, Farmer Anna, has worked at the farm for over 20 years so I was always going to grow up being at the farm. I was born in 2013 and my 1st visit to the farm was when I was 1 week old! I love the farm very much and cannot wait until I am old enough to work here. I would really like to work on the Yard with all of the animals, or at the Gift shop entrance to greet people as they come to the farm.
I have had many birthdays here at the farm! For my 8th birthday we had an animal handling party that was Harry Potter themed! As well as this, for my 9th birthday party, my mum hired the field and created my own festival called – ‘Libfest’! We had an inflatable disco room that we brought in, so me and my friends could have a dance to some music! We also had a sweet station with every different sweet you could think of, the only problem with this, was the wasps!! They were everywhere and kept on coming to try and eat our sweets. It was very funny though. My mum brought all sorts of games for us to play up in the field, even an inflatable Nerf gun… we had so much fun!
I’ve been here for so many of the events and character days here at White Post Farm. The very first one that I can remember is a character day with Bing & Flop, where the day was festival themed as well! Me and Farmer Gemma were supposed to be helping with ‘hook a duck’, but we got so warm that we just got in the pool instead to cool down!
One of my favourite events we did was our Great Big Circus which was based on the Greatest Showman. I dressed up as the character Anne Wheeler, and I really loved my outfit and all of the cool activities we got to do! The sun was shining and we had such a great day. I really enjoyed the Wizard week as well, which was based on Harry Potter, because we got to do quidditch training and the sorting hat… I was Slytherin! All of the staff dressed up and looked so cool, we had a great time.
I have done many farmer days over my time at the farm, as well as falconry experiences. Ive even brought my friends to do Goat Yoga with me before, and it is so fun. The goats jump on your back when your posing, and it is so fun, unless the goats wee or poo on you, that’s not so fun. The falconry experiences are really exciting, I got to do the show with Falconer Simon once and we got to fly the birds through hoops! Me and my friend Jasmine even took part in Young Falconers club which was really good, we learnt all about each bird in the centre, and got to hold and fly some of them.
I have had so many cuddles with all of the animals at the farm, and it never gets boring, I still love coming and getting stuck in where I can. I even met the famous goat Gary when he was a little baby! I’ve walked the ponies, fed the wallabies and lots of the other animals! As I have grown up as part of the farm family, I get on with the team very well, and they love showing me new things that I may not have experienced before. During lockdown, I even helped mummy and the farm complete the ‘Walk for White Post’ challenge, where the whole team walked the length of England between them, to raise money to help the animals over a difficult time. I had so much fun going this, as it was something different and I knew it was for a good reason
.
You may have seen me around at the farm before. At the Mermaid themed ‘Summer nights’ evening, I got to dress up as a real-life mermaid with Farmer Morgan, where all of the children came and had photos with us and chatted with us about all things mermaid! You may have also seen me at Wild Camping, which used to be another one of my favourite events as it was so fun being at the farm after it had closed, and camping knowing your surrounded by wonderful animals!
I really do love the farm and enjoy every part of coming as a visitor, and getting to see some amazing behind the scenes bits like births and much more! I can’t wait until I can work here one day. Thank you for reading!
