Farmer Morgan’s evening of fun at Goat Yoga!
If any of you have ever considered participating in the fun of Goat Yoga, let me tell you it’s so much fun! I took my mum for a session and we had the best time!
Goat Yoga has always been a fan favourite of our customers here at White Post Farm, as there is nothing better than the relaxation of Polly’s yoga session – accompanied with goats!
I’ve always wanted to join in a session of Goat Yoga since it began at the farm, so I decided that for my mum’s birthday, I would bring her along. When we came along for our session, we had the most amazing evening, and it was even on ‘World Goat Day’, which made it even more special. We arrived to yoga-mats with little piles of hay in front of each one, which we could use to entice the goats to come over to us. After washing our hands, we put all of our belongings in the bucket assigned to us and took our shoes off ready to get going. Polly spoke us through some basic health and safety, and then along came the Pygmy goats – Ida, Igloo, Indigo, Ianto, Ice-cream and Immi! Farmer Hayley and Polly brought them in one-by-one, introducing them and letting them have a wander around, getting comfortable with us before the actual yoga began. It was great as you could immediately see each of their personalities shine through; Ida was super bubbly, whereas Igloo was more about the cuddles than the yoga! This gave us a chance to fuss the goats and have lots of cuddles before starting.
Polly is a fully qualified yoga instructor, meaning that you get the maximum experience of both yoga, and goat cuddles. When the yoga began, we started with some stretches and breathing exercises, with the goats making it almost impossible to concentrate on the actual yoga. Polly made it clear that no matter the yoga position, we could always keep one hand free for goat tickles! After the warm-up finished, the goats got very invested in the yoga, possibly because of the treats we were given to keep in our hand, encouraging them to partake. When in the planking position, the Pygmy goats were keen to hop onto our backs, with us all competing to plank them the longest. This became increasingly difficult when my mum ended up with Ida, Ianto and Indigo all on her back at once… but she still planked the longest!
We did have to sometimes place some of the animal food and straw on our backs to encourage them to hop up, as Polly and Farmer Hayley told us that they can sometimes be very lazy! However, they were popcorning around and loving their time during the yoga. I couldn’t believe how they would hop from my back, onto my mums, they are so clever! As it was ‘World Goat Day’, once the goats had been put back to bed, Polly snuck out a few of the new Pygmy kids that were born only five days before! These didn’t participate in the yoga of course, they were just there for the cuddles and attention. The goats loved the session just as much as I did, and we loved seeing them bounce about with joy!
Goat Yoga was the happiest and most uplifting session of yoga I have ever done, also a lot more intense than I had realised (my arms still ache now). Everyone in the group left with the biggest smiles on their face, including the goats… it was great to see!
Don’t miss out on the last couple of sessions of Goat Yoga for the rest of the year! New dates added for September. Book online now!
