We are happy and extremely excited too announce that Matilda the armadillo has had a baby!
It is a little girl and was born on 12th May and is now doing really well, eating lots of food and inquisitively exploring Lots of you will have already met mum, Matilda and will be happy to know she is doing a really good job. She is a very popular animal with visitors and the White Post team so we are really pleased for her and very proud of her too.
Keeper Martin, Head of Exotics here at White Post is feeling very proud! He said “This is a great achievement for White Post Farm. We are ecstatic to have reared our first exotic mammal since obtaining a zoo licence in March 2020. Successfully breeding armadillos is very difficult so this is fantastic news”.
It was important the team kept the news under wraps over the last 6 weeks and they carefully monitored the progress of the little one. But now, as she has become stronger and more active you can see her in the indoor section of the enclosure in the Silver Barn. Ahmed our male armadillo will remain in the outdoor section where he is happily digging and exploring whilst mum and baby bond.
All the armadillos are fed at 12.30pm every day so make sure you join us then on your next visit.
