Lesser hedgehog tenrecs are a small, spiny nocturnal species of mammal.

IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern.

Diet: Omnivorous, mainly feeding on invertebrates but occasionally they will eat fruit or small mammals.

Habitat: Dry forest areas on the island of Madagascar. Deforestation is one of the biggest threats, resulting in habitat loss.

Fun fact: Although they have similar characteristics to hedgehogs, they are not related! Their closest relatives are otter shrews and golden moles.
